McGUINTY GOVERNMENT INVESTING IN BETTER PATIENT CARE FOR WINDSOR AND ESSEX
WINDSOR - The McGuinty government is improving patient care in Windsor and Essex by investing $6,727,922 to upgrade and modernize medical equipment at Windsor Regional Hospital and $1,926,691 at Hotel-Dieu Grace Hospital, local MPPs announced today on behalf of Health and Long-Term Care Minister George Smitherman.
"Our government is absolutely committed to providing quality care and better access through state-of-the-art medical and diagnostic equipment," said Dwight Duncan, MPP for Windsor-Tecumseh. "This investment will mean that the residents of Windsor and Essex will have better access to the equipment they need, and the care they deserve."
The funding is part of the government's $340-million investment, announced today, to upgrade diagnostic and medical equipment in hospitals and long-term care homes across the province.
"Patients require the very best care, whether they are in hospitals or long-term care homes," said Sandra Pupatello, MPP for Windsor-West. "We are modernizing our diagnostic and medical equipment to improve the care patients are receiving, and also reduce the time they have to wait to receive that care."
"We are improving the health and quality of life for people in Windsor and Essex by ensuring everyone receives the quality care they deserve, while not waiting long periods of time to be treated," said Bruce Crozier, MPP for Essex.
Last week, the McGuinty government announced more than $120 million to increase the number of MRI/CT exams, cardiac catheterization diagnostic procedures and cancer radiation treatments through more modern diagnostic and treatment equipment.
Today's announcement is part of the McGuinty government's comprehensive plan to improve health care in Ontario. It's a plan that includes reducing wait times for key procedures, creating Family Health Teams, increasing the number of doctors and nurses, and investing heavily in community-based health care in order to ease the pressure on hospitals and deliver care where patients need it most - closer to home.
